SaskTel announces the commercial introduction of the Terminal-to-Network interface for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line 2+(ADSL2+) based on publicly available standards. Service for this technology is expected to commence in 3Q 2006 for selected areas of Saskatchewan, subject to market requirements and technical feasibility. This interface is in addition to the interface described in SaskTel Industry Advisory STIA-4a. Service for this technology will use existing telephone loops having metallic continuity, to provide simultaneous voice and data capability between the subscriber and the main terminal room. ADSL equipment will be provided by the ADSL service provider at both ends of the loop. The connection to the local loop will remain an existing POTS copper interface.
Subscriber located ADSL equipment must be certified in accordance with Certification Specification CS-03.
Compatibility Impact:
None expected. Note that this advisory makes no claims concerning vendor-specific ADSL modem interoperability with SaskTel's ADSL network. The introduction of ADSL2+ will be offered prior to the introduction of VDSL2 . SaskTel's plan is to operate with ADSL2+ and overlay with VDSL2, once VDSL2 is available. Should a decision be made at a later date that the Terminal-to-Network interface for ADSL2+ technology would not be offered a Network Notification will be issued according to NCN-01 "Procedures for Network Change Notices and Disclosures for New Terminal-to-Network Interfaces"
