I have worked at SaskTel for more than 28 years. As a technician, I have worked on our voice, data and video services. I've seen major changes in equipment during the transition from analogue to digital services. I have also seen many different services such as party lines, cellular, security, internet and cable TV that we have provided to the people of Saskatchewan. if you like change, this is definitely the company to work for.
My career has also allowed me to travel to various destinations throughout North America. I have had the pleasure of visiting every province in Canada for work. With SaskTel International I worked for three months as a consultant in Tulsa, Oklahoma, helping an established company develop a brand new control office for their switching network. I have had staff work in South America and Malaysia. I have even had staff work on the communications equipment for the Chunnel - the tunnel that connects England to France.
Currently I am the Pioneer Manager at SaskTel. The SaskTel Pioneers are a world class volunteer organization that assists people in the communities of Saskatchewan. On average the Pioneers fundraise and donate $350,000 a year back into the community. They also donate about 60,000 hours of volunteer time. Pioneer projects include Phone Book Recycling, Computers for Schools, Hug-a-Bears and the Wishmaker Parade. The job is very rewarding, especially when you get the chance to help someone out. I have also worked with another important program SaskTel finances - Helping our own people or HOOP - a program designed to financially assist employee/retirees with medical needs.
So what has SaskTel done for me? This company has given me a very comfortable life style due to the salary and overall benefits I receive. SaskTel has also helped me achieve a Business Administration Certificate from the University of Saskatchewan. In addition, I have been on numerous training courses that help me not only at work but also home. I have seen parts of the world I probably would never have gone to if it wasn’t for SaskTel.
I have had the opportunity to work in different cities and various departments, which has kept me fresh and allowed me to constantly learn new skills. One of the last and most important things I have received from SaskTel is the friendships I have made throughout Canada. This is a great company to work for - one that offers all kinds of opportunities for its employees.
